It’s often the day-in and day-out work of committed, caring and skillful teachers that stands out, Broad View Elementary principal Joyce Swanson said.

Which is one reason she honored Renee Hall, a music teacher at Broad View, and fifth grade teacher Kris Bishop at last Monday’s Oak Harbor School Board meeting.

The principal described Hall as an energetic teacher and director who inspires children to do great things. Broad View grade level music performances are well known for their quality of music, dance, narration and choreography from kindergarten through fifth grades.

“She teaches with great excitement and kids are engaged in her class,” Swanson said.

Bishop is a Safety Patrol advisor and is at the crosswalk every morning and afternoon, rain or shine, to provide support to patrollers. As advisor, she recruits and trains new members. Under her leadership, one of the fifth graders was chosen as “Patroller of the Year” by the Washington State Patrol in 2008. Bishop is also a current member of the school’s leadership team and a teacher representative to the PTA.
