Every time one of us walks or drives by the beautiful garden in front of the Island County Museum, please take the time to tip your hat, salute or just think happy thoughts about our own Coupeville Garden Club.

In late fall of 2013, John Bachert and his flock of gardeners descended on our well-established (aka overgrown) drought-tolerant garden.

Tools and wheelbarrows in hand, they trimmed, pruned, pulled weeds, pressure washed our sidewalks — and hauled away many truckloads of material to “compost central.”

Then our friends from Malliard’s Landing in Oak Harbor generously donated three yards of mulch, another great volunteer added two more, plus the delivery charges — and then garden club members covered all the beds with a nice winter coat.

Denman and Nancy Moody also spent many hours last summer, helping keep our garden looking great, but all agree the addition of many extra hands were surely welcomed.

How fortunate we are to have so many giving folks in our midst, who are always ready to lend a hand, and who take such great pride in their community. Thanks to you all!
