Things tight as Port of Coupeville transitions

Business at the Port of Coupeville continues to move forward as a new board and new staff get settled at the Greenbank Farm.

Business at the Port of Coupeville continues to move forward as a new board and new staff get settled at the Greenbank Farm.

“It’s been quite an interesting couple of months,” said Executive Director Forrest Rambo. “Because of the decision (to take over management of Greenbank Farm) last year, the level of office activity has increased.

“We’ve accomplished a lot with very little.”

The port is currently operating almost as a one-man office. The current part-time administrative assistant is working minimal hours and has given notice due to health reasons.

Rambo said the port is currently advertising for another administrative assistant.

In the last month, the port acquired a lawn mower and trailer.

The port has been providing no tools for property maintenance. The Greenbank Farm Management Group took all the tools with them. Staff has been using their personal tools.

“It’s kind of hard to run a farm without tools and equipment,” Rambo said. “Sometimes we have three to four people sharing a computer.”

He is working through policy and procedure around acquiring a port credit card to make purchases when needed.

The board will continue discussions about setting limits around expenditures during its continued meeting on March 31.

“It will all balance out,” Rambo said. “Things are going to be great, we’re just going through a tough spot.”
