A 29-year-old Oak Harbor man is accused of violating a court order by calling his ex-girlfriend at least a half dozen times and threatening to kill her, court documents indicate.

Jay Whitmore pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court July 21 to two counts of felony harassment (threats to kill), six counts of violation of a court order and one count of misdemeanor harassment.

On July 19, a 24-year-old Oak Harbor woman reported to police that Whitmore threatened to beat her and her boyfriend when she went to pick up her children from his apartment, according to a report by Sgt. Sean Magorrian with the Oak Harbor Police.

The woman claimed that Whitmore than started calling her phone over and over again. She said he threatened to kill her when she answered, the police report states.

Magorrian wrote that he listened to the calls, and recorded a couple of them, after the woman put the call on speaker phone. He wrote that the male caller threatened to kill her and swore at her.

Whitmore, however, adamantly denied that he made the calls or any threats. He told the police that he didn’t even have a phone and would never threaten to hurt his ex-girlfriend, court documents state.

If convicted of the charges against him, Whitmore could face from four months to a year in jail under the standard sentencing range.
