Toyotas, Hondas, made in the USA

I have reached ignorance overload! Since the auto industry crisis started in the fall, various editorial and letter writers, in numerous different periodicals, have been prattling on about the evils of Americans buying foreign cars. The latest of these writers is Ed Curtin of Coupeville. This massive culpable ignorance is ticking me off!

People, according to Toyota, my Sienna was built in Indiana! And according to a sticker on the window, it was built from parts 97 percent of which were manufactured here in the U.S. There are five Toyota plants in the U.S.: Kentucky, Alabama, Indiana, Texas, West Virginia; plus a new one in Mississippi, and one run with GM in Fremont, Calif.

All Hondas sold in the U.S. are made here. So, since Honda and Toyota make up a large proportion of the “foreign cars” sold in the U.S.; what are these letter-writing ignorazzi prattling on about? Must be Kia or Subaru I guess. I don’t think a few more sales for GM taken from Subaru are going to save the company from its history of poor management and over-costly union contracts.

Maybe these guys should put their mind in gear before putting their pen (or word processor) in motion.
