Two people were injured in a head-on accident on Highway 20 on North Whidbey on the evening of June 7.
The Washington State Patrol reported that 18-year-old Jordan C. Carranza of Coupeville was driving a 2002 BMW south on the highway and crossed over the centerline for an unknown reason. Carranza’s vehicle struck an oncoming 2020 Kia Niro driven by 58-year-old Maria Murphy of Oak Harbor.
The accident was reported at 5:48 p.m.
Carranza was seriously injured in the collision and airlifted to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett for treatment. Providence reported Friday morning that Carranza was in stable condition.
Murphy was also injured and transported to WhidbeyHealth Medical Center. Both Carranza and Murphy were wearing seat bets.
Both vehicles were totaled in the head-on collision.
The State Patrol reported that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Traffic was routed around the scene as responders extricated a driver whose legs were pinned.
