Two Oak Harbor Youth Football League teams will play in their division “Super Bowls” Sunday, Nov. 15, at Mount Vernon High School.

The Bobcats will square off with Arlington Gold at 12:15 p.m. and the Cougars meet Sedro-Woolley at 2:30 p.m. in the championship battles.

The two Oak Harbor teams earned their championship berths with thrilling wins in the semifinal match-ups last Sunday at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

The Bobcats scored on the final play of the game to squeak out a 41-40 win over Burlington in the pee-wee division (5-8 year olds).

The win helped avenge a 33-25 loss to Burlington two weeks prior to the semifinal clash.

In last Sunday’s game, Burlington and the Bobcats played to a 14-14 halftime tie. The Oak Harbor team quickly jumped to a 28-14 lead in the third quarter, but Burlington responded.

The visitors scored, then they recovered a Bobcat fumble and that led to another TD to tie-up the game.

In the fourth quarter the Bobcats took the lead again, and once again Burlington answered, knotting the game at 34.

Things looked bleak for the Bobcats when Burlington scored with 17 seconds left in the game, but the PAT attempt failed.

After the kickoff and with 14 seconds left, Dalan Hubbard gained 36 yards on a reverse to the Burlington 26-yard line with just 1.6 seconds left.

Bobcat quarterback Dorian Hardin faked a reverse and dashed into the end zone as time expired. The TD tied the game, then the Bobcats converted on the PAT for the improbable 41-40 win.

The Cougars jumped to a 20-0 lead over Burlington in the midget (9-10) semifinal then hung on for dear life.

After going on top 7-0 in the first quarter, the Cougars seemed to put the game away with 13 more fourth quarter points. Princeton Everett scored all three TDs for the Cougars.

Burlington, however, had other ideas. It scored and recovered an onside kick. On the first play after the recovery, it scored again to make it 20-14.

Burlington tried another onside kick, but this time around the Cougars recovered.

However, Burlington still wasn’t through. Its defense held, and it was four-and-out for Oak Harbor and Burlington had one more chance.

The visitors drove to the 10-yard line where the Cougars held on fourth down with 3 seconds left.

Cougar coach Marcus Carr praised his entire defensive unit for its final stop.
