Their hard work was recognized Wednesday when awards were presented in the second annual “Visions of a More Beautiful Oak Harbor” — a planter contest.

The announcement was made at a luncheon meeting of the Greater Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce.

There is a tie for grand prize winner because the two contestants garnered the same amount of points. The planters won for Most Creative.

City Pride, a group dedicated to improving the quality of life in Oak Harbor, created a planter across for the YMCA, the intersection where Ely meets Pioneer Way. And Midway Florist created the first two planters at the entrance to City Hall.

Whidbey Island Bank won for the Most Patriotic for the planter in front of the bank on Pioneer Way. Karen and Ben Bunnell won in the The Most Colorful category for their planter to the right in front of City Hall.

Appreciation certificates and ribbons were presented to all the participants.

Helen Mosbrooker was in charge of this year’s contest. She thanked the participants for their efforts and the contest sponsors: The Chamber, the City and the Oak Harbor Garden Club.
