A sex offender who was supposed to be living in Oak Harbor is wanted on a $20,000 bench warrant.

Prosecutors charged William Lucio, 25, in Island County Superior Court May 19 with failure to register as a sex offender (failure to notify of move).

Judge Alan Hancock authorized a $20,000 bench warrant on Lucio June 2 after the man didn’t appear at a court hearing.

Lucio was convicted in an Army court at Fort Lewis on May 23, 2005, of possession of child pornography, according to a report by Detective Sue Quandt with the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

As a result of the conviction, Lucio was required to register as a sex offender. Sex offenders in the state must register with the sheriff’s office in the county they live in and submit their exact address. They must notify the office if they plan to move.

Lucio was supposed to be living at a home on NE Taftson Street in Oak Harbor. In the process of verifying sex offenders’ addresses, Quandt discovered that Lucio was reported missing last August by his roommate.

Quandt contacted members of Lucio’s family who said he may have moved to California.
