A 29-year-old Oak Harbor man is wanted on a $10,000 warrant for allegedly raping a child, court documents indicate.

Island County Superior Court Judge Alan Hancock authorized the warrant after the defendant, Charles Arik, didn’t appear at a Nov. 29 hearing. Arik was charged Nov. 10 with the rape of a child in the third degree, a sex offense that carries a standard sentencing range of a year to a year and two months in prison.

The mother of the 15-year-old victim caught Arik raping her daughter and attacked Arik with a knife early in the morning of Aug. 4, according to a report by Detective Sgt. Mike Beech with the Island County Sheriff’s Office. Arik ran from the house as the woman chased him and he left his shirt in the driveway.

Arik was in a pool league with the girl’s parents and had slept overnight at their Oak Harbor home.

In an interview with the detective, Arik admitted to having sex with the girl, even though he knew she had just recently turned 15 years old.

According to state law, “a person is guilty of rape of a child in the third degree when the person has sexual intercourse with another who is at least fourteen years old but less than sixteen years old and not married to the perpetrator and the perpetrator is at least forty-eight months older than the victim.”
