Water rescue plan stalls

A cooperative plan for water rescue between the North Whidbey Fire and Rescue District and John Aydelotte, owner of Marine Services based at Cornet Bay, has sprung a leak.

Aydelotte discussed the proposal with fire officials at the Aug. 14 fire and rescue meeting and commissioners voted 2 to 1 to move ahead with the proposal. On that date, they directed fire Chief Marv Koorn to meet with Aydelotte to work out the details.

At last Tuesday’s meeting, Koorn said a plan covering 17 points that fire officials felt needed to be addressed before the project could move forward was presented to Aydelotte, who has yet to respond.

“I presented him with the plan not long after the August meeting, but I received no response,” Koorn said.

Koorn said the water rescue plan is not a dead issue. “It is just not moving as rapidly as we expected it to.”
