Though Holland Happening is canceled for a second year because of the pandemic, you can still get your funnel cake this weekend at the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce Food Truck Turnout.

Executive Director Vicki Graham said she wanted to do something for the community to offset the coronavirus woes.

The event is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the wooded area next to the chamber’s building where the farmers market used to be located.

There will be at least six food trucks. The weekend’s feast will include mini doughnuts, lumpia, hamburgers, hot dogs and carnival favorites such as elephant ears and cotton candy.

All of the food trucks hail from Whidbey Island except one.

Graham said everyone will be asked to wear a mask when they are not eating, and there will be handwashing stations throughout the area. Current state guidance limits outdoor events to 400 people, and Graham said organizers will be keeping an eye on the crowd.

Visitors can also take part in the “klompen canal races” by decorating a wooden shoe and cheering it to victory from 2-3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

The chamber also teamed up with Operation Gratitude and Navy Federal Credit Union to put together 600 bags meant for active duty service members, veterans and first responders. They can be found at the chamber’s tent during the event.

Graham said she’s hopeful people will enjoy this event and will encourage people to be hopeful about the future and the end of the pandemic.

“We wanted to bring some sense of normalcy into the community,” Graham said. “There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and we are going to get there.”
