Wezeman finishes 4th in district singles tournament | Tennis

Oak Harbor High School juniors Jackson Wezeman and Rodrigo Columbo finished fourth and fifth respectively in the District 1 3A singles tennis tournament this week.

The two Wildcat players split their matches on the first day of the tournament then started the second day at Skagit Valley College Thursday, Oct. 29, pitted against each other in the consolation bracket.

Wezeman, the No. 2 seed from the Wesco North Division, defeated Columbo, the North’s No. 3, seed 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.

Wezeman then faced Everett’s Ulises Aceves-Castaneda, the North’s top seed, in a match to determine third place and the final berth into the state tournament.

Aceves-Castaneda won 6-2, 6-1.

Wezeman will be the district’s first alternate into the state tournament.

The South’s No. 2 seed, Shorewood’s Gunnar Thorstenson, topped No. 1-seeded Jeremy Ansdell of Mountlake Terrace 6-4, 6-2 for the district title.
