The letter by Gary Piazzon this last week got me thinking. Why is there such a hardcore belief in “global warming” or “climate change?” It is almost a religion for many. If you question it or don’t believe in it the supporters look at you like a Christian would look at a Satanist doing an animal sacrifice.
When I was going to school in the late 1960s, the big thing was the coming Ice Age. In fact the scientist who gave Al Gore his information for global warming was the same scientist that was promoting the coming ice age in the 1970s.
In 1995, while going back to college, I got a copy of some research done by several Midwestern college agriculture departments on the effect of up to a 5 percent increase in the partial pressure of CO2 on plant growth. As the CO2 increased, the plants’ usage of water and production of oxygen, the byproduct of photosynthesis, increased. The plants required less water to achieve the same level of growth.
Another research paper also showed the temperature plots for the 1950-1990s on a skater plot graph. There was no definite long-term increase. There were some years up and some down.
In the ensuing time I have watched the growing paranoia of “global warming” increase. I wondered where all these people were coming from. I came across an address by the former leader of Communist Russia, Mikhail Gorbachev, to a portion of the United Nations. In the speech, he said we needed to get rid of the “Ten Commandments” and adopt the “12 Commandments for Mother Earth” to save the planet. With the fall of communism in Russia, what became of all the socialists and communists? Many of them went into the environmental movement. For them, it is a religion. They have to save mother earth from the evil humans.
I will resist and fight against any government program, local, state or national, that will destroy our economy as the planned legislation would do. I am proud of America and what we have accomplished.
