Sammamish is the place to be this Friday as the Wildcat football team (10-1) plays its first ever state quarterfinal game at 7:30 p.m. against the Skyline Spartans (11-0).
Oak Harbor earned its second-round match-up with the state’s top-ranked 4A team by beating Gig Harbor 28-14 Friday, Nov. 11 in a “home†game at Mount Vernon. The victory marked the first time in four state tournament appearances since 1982 that the Wildcats made it through the first round.
“It’s like a progression,†OHHS head coach Dave Ward said. “We’ve been in that game before and it was only a matter of time.
Now we kind of feel like alright, let’s go get the next group.â€
Skyline beat the state’s third-ranked Pasco Bulldogs 20-9 to move into the second round. The Spartans haven’t lost a game since falling 28-14 to Evergreen in the 2004 4A state championship game.
For those who can’t make it, Friday’s game can be heard locally on KWDB 1110 AM.
