Whidbey General Hospital received a clean financial exam from the Washington state auditor from January through Dec. 2007, officials announced Friday afternoon.

“The hospital’s receipt of an unqualified audit opinion is a testimony to the quality of our hospital employees and a tribute to the experience and hard work of the Financial Services team,” Tom Tomasino, interim hospital CEO, said.

The state auditor briefed the hospital’s board of commissioners, Tomasino, Chief Financial Officer Joe Vessey and Grace Deluca of the hospital’s Finance Committee on the report.

“She also explained that the auditors agreed with the financial statement and that there would be no findings and no management letters,” according to hospital officials.

The audit evaluated the hospital for accountability and compliance with certain laws and regulations including the safeguarding of assets, payroll, travel expenses, creation of corporation, foundation agreement, prior year follow up and Stark Law.

“We are continually focused on achieving this goal, and we are collectively delighted to see it realized in this result,” Tomasino said.

According to the auditor’s findings, the hospital produced an “overall good report, with good internal controls demonstrated by the district.”
