The following items were selected from reports made to the Island County Sheriff’s Office:
Friday, Jan. 3
At 12:31 a.m., a San Juan Avenue resident reported that a woman moved into his home without his knowledge or permission. He said his unwanted roommate wouldn’t let him in the residence.
At 8:21 a.m., a driver reported that a horse was tromping about on Fort Nugent Road.
At 8:27 a.m., a Fort Casey Road resident reported finding someone else’s Christmas card in her recently recovered car.
At 9:36 a.m., a caller reported finding someone living in a shed on Holly Berry Road. The squatter started a fire to keep warm, but the shed wasn’t well ventilated and filled with smoke.
At 11:24 a.m., a caller reported that someone broke a window on Juniper Beach Road with an air rifle or .22 rifle.
At 1:39 p.m., there was a report that a mailbox and signs were vandalized on Penn Cove Road.
At 1:49 p.m., a Cook Road resident reported that someone tried to break into a shed.
At 4:05 p.m., an Alta Vista Drive resident reported a prowler was lurking the home the night before.
At 5:19 p.m., a Terry Road resident reported a prowler was on her property the night before. She found a 24-ounce beer, “partially consumed,” in her yard.
Saturday, Jan. 4
At 12:03 a.m., a suspicious man was reported in a Whidbey General Hospital parking lot.
At 1:42 a.m., a 911 call was made from Whitney Drive. The dispatcher heard someone say “please don’t call the police” and “I need my hat.”
At 5:28 a.m., a caller reported that someone was stealing equipment from a shop on Zylstra Road.
At 5:42 a.m., a taxi driver reported driving a man home from a casino to an Elhardt Street home, but the man went inside without paying.
At 12:42 p.m., a Crosby Road resident reported that a neighbor was shooting across her property. She has livestock and was worried about the animals’ welfare.
At 9:36 p.m., a driver found a box in the middle of State Highway 20.
At 11:27 p.m., a Whidbey General Hospital employee reported that a woman struck a staff member in the ER and then locked herself in a bathroom. The caller said the woman started banging her head on a computer.
Sunday, Jan. 5
At 6:23 a.m., a caller reported that a car crashed on Madrona Heights Road and the occupants were afraid the vehicle would tip over and slide down a ravine if they got out.
At 2:12 p.m., a Penn Cove Road resident reported a dog in the road. The pooch wasn’t aggressive, but “just a bother.”
At 8:55 p.m., a caller on Riepma Avenue said he was watching “a disc in the sky spinning and changing colors.” The man said “it looks like it’s about a thousands miles away” and that the sheriff’s office is welcome to look through his telescope. The dispatcher noted that the man was screaming and was very excited.
At 11:17 p.m., a doctor at the hospital reported that a patient drove away after being told not to drive due to medication.
Monday, Jan. 6
At 12:11 p.m., a caller reported that residents on Silver Lake Road have 20 to 30 ducks and geese free ranging on the roadway. The caller said it was “a dumb situation.”
At 12:33 p.m., a Mussel Beach Road resident reported a continued problem with poachers. People in a boat have been leaving deer carcasses and empty beer containers on the property.
At 1:37 p.m., a driver reported that an oversized truck took out a half-dozen handrails on Deception Pass Bridge but didn’t stop.
At 2:27 p.m., there was a report that a 79-year-old woman fell asleep and ran off the road on E. Troxell Road.
At 7:02 p.m., a woman reported that all the tires on her car were flattened when it was parked at a park-and-ride lot on Highway 20 at Jones Road.
At 7:26 p.m., a caller reported that a burglar entered a Shangri-La Circle home while a resident was there.
