Whidbey Island post offices will be sponsoring their “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive this Saturday, May 11.

Island residents are encouraged to leave donations of nonperishable food items in their mailboxes by 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Mail carriers will be picking up all donations and delivering them to local food banks.

Post office box customers can deliver their donations directly to a collection bin inside their local post office, according to post office officials.

Donations from Oak Harbor will be delivered to Help House. Donations made in Coupeville and Greenbank will go to Gifts from the Heart.

All donations from the south end of the island will go to Good Cheer.

The postal service’s national food drive is important to local food banks as donations decline significantly during the summer months.
