A sailor assigned to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station is back at work after being charged in federal court with stealing and selling high-tech gun sights.

Wilfred Bouton, an Oak Harbor resident, is with the Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Mobile Disposal Unit 11. He appeared in U.S. District Court in Seattle Tuesday. He was released into the custody of his command and is working “basic duties,” according to base spokesperson Kim Martin.

The Associated Press reported that Bouton is facing theft and conspiracy charges. He’s accused of stealing advanced combat optical gun sights from the military and selling them on eBay.

Martin said his unit does have optical gun sights, but she doesn’t know if Bouton is accused of stealing from the Whidbey base.

According to Martin, Bouton joined the Navy in June of 1999. He’s originally from Lafayette, Lou.
