Whidbey Island Center for the Arts announces that Adam Michard has joined the staff as technical director/facility manager.

As technical director, Michard is the technical liaison for all groups renting the facility or being presented at WICA, in charge of maintaining and repairing all stage equipment, and oversees maintenance of safety standards in the building. He will work closely with WICA’s Community Theatre Production Director Deana Duncan and visiting directors to design sets and lighting for WICA’s Community Theatre Series. Said Duncan, “This is a very important part of the job. Adam is in charge of making sure that every technical aspect of a WICA production is covered. We rely heavily on volunteers to assist in the mounting of a show. Having someone of his technical expertise means that we can continue to choose challenging works and fully utilize the skills of the community. He will also teach technical training classes in sound and light, co-coordinate and teach WICA’s Summer Youth Theatre Camp, and supervise building maintenance.”

A graduate of Western Illinois University, Michard holds a B.A. in Theatre, where he specialized in design and production. Michard has experience with opera, touring theatre and live music, and has crewed more than 100 productions. He has held a number of technical internships, including a summer stint at Theatre Walt Disney World MGM Studios, and spent two seasons working with the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Houghton, Mich., prior to joining WICA. In addition to technical credits, he has extensive experience with scene, sound and light design.

Michard is excited to support WICA at this stage in its development. Said Michard, “I am excited and honored to join the WICA staff. I’ve been living on the island for several months now and I find it a unique and remarkable spot for the theatre and the arts. I’m looking forward to working closely with the community in the coming year.”

Michard replaces Ray Jarol, who took a position at the Everett Performing Arts Center.
