It was a heart-breaker. Cascade pushed in a goal in the final 45 seconds to edge Oak Harbor’s girls’ soccer team 1-0 Tuesday on Senior Night at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
It was the second time this year the Bruins (5-9-2) defeated the winless Wildcats 1-0.
The Wildcats took three shots on goal in the first two minutes of the second half, but could manage just three more the rest of the half as the Bruins controlled play.
Oak Harbor’s defense, anchored by strong play from goalie Maggie Gorman, was up to the challenge until the final minute.
Coach Jeff Laiblin said, “We played with the character of champions. I couldn’t ask for anything more; they played their hearts out.”
Laiblin praised his seniors. He said, “It is a true test of the senior class. They have made sure this year the team is ready to play every game.”
The Wildcats finish the year at Snohomish (7-8) Wednesday.
