Wildcat United opened the middle school cross country season with a win in a three-team meet at Burlington Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The Oak Harbor team, a combination of North Whidbey and Oak Harbor middle school athletes, defeated Anacortes 135-200 in the four-race event. Burlington-Edison did not have enough runners in two of the races to qualify for team scoring.

Colton Livingston (seventh-grade boys, 10:06.74) and Patricia Miessner (eighth-grade girls, 10:35.36) led Wildcat United by winning their respective races.

“All the runners worked hard to prepare for this first outing, and they didn’t disappoint when it came to their performances,” coach Mike Briddell said. “The entire team was tenacious as they battled tough competition from the Anacortes and Burlington athletes.

“Returning runners posted personal best performances and newcomers gained valuable experience that set the tone for their season.”

Wildcat United will host two 3:30 p.m. meets this fall at Windjammer Park, Thursday, Oct. 1, and Wednesday, Oct. 7.
