Forty-one football seasons have elapsed since the last time an Oak Harbor High School team has finished the regular season with an undefeated record.

That long streak came to an end on Friday at Wildcat Memorial Stadium as Oak Harbor defeated Cascade 21-7 on senior night.

The victory gives the Wildcats the undisputed WesCo North championship with a perfect 9-0 regular season record and the number-one seed into the upcoming playoffs.

Oak Harbor scored on its first possession when sophomore running back Donovon Hunt swept right end for a 7-yard touchdown at the 8-minute mark of the first quarter.

Mike Johnston booted the extra point and the Cats were off and running 7-0.

Later in the first period after Cascade turned the ball over on downs at the Oak Harbor 21-yard line, quarterback Johnny Encinas engineered an eight-play, 79-yard drive hitting Jordan Young with a 36-yard TD pass with 38 seconds remaining in the opening period.

Johnston’s second kick upped the lead to 14-0.

Cascade answered with a score with 3:45 remaining before halftime when quarterback Aaron Frye punched the ball in the end zone from a yard out.

Camden McDonald added the point after, and Oak Harbor went into the locker room up 14-7.

With 1:34 remaining in the third period, Young put his second touchdown on the board on a 3-yard run, and Johnston’s third extra point kick made the score 21-7.

Cascade was driving the ball midway through the final period and had reached the Wildcats’ 18-yard line when Julian Willis coughed the ball up and junior defensive tackle Chris Neumiller recovered the fumble to end the Bruins’ drive with 5:23 left in the game.

That was the last time Cascade would have possession and the Wildcats ran the clock out to seal the victory.
