Wildcats open season at Sehome Invitational | Cross country

The Oak Harbor High School senior boys placed second in their division of the Sehome Invitational at Bellingham’s Civic Stadium Saturday, Sept. 10, to lead the Wildcats in their cross country season opener.

In all, 30 schools and 946 individuals took part in the meet.

The meet was divided into races for each class as well as a junior varsity division for the boys. Teams needed at least five individuals in a division to earn a team score in that class.

In those divisions Oak Harbor entered at least five runners, the Wildcats placed second in senior boys, third in junior boys and ninth in freshman boys.

The best individual effort for the Wildcat boys was logged by Benjamin Gasper (10:49), who placed sixth in the junior boys race over the two-mile course.

Alexis Smith (12:59) paced the Wildcat girls, placing fifth in the sophomore girls race.

Oak Harbor will join Mount Vernon and Glacier Peak at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Skagit Valley College for the next meet.
