Bouncing back from a 13-0 loss at Sedro-Woolley Thursday, March 15, the Oak Harbor High School fastpitch team slipped by host Lake Stevens 7-5 Friday.

Bouncing back from a 13-0 loss at Sedro-Woolley Thursday, March 15, the Oak Harbor High School fastpitch team slipped by host Lake Stevens 7-5 Friday.

The Wildcats (2-1) wrap up nonconference play with Arlington at 4 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Hillcrest Elementary.

Sedro-Woolley, up 3-0 after two innings, pushed across seven runs in the third inning to secure the win. The Cubs combined 11 hits with six walks and five Wildcat errors to cruise to the win.

Emily Saar rapped two hits for Oak Harbor, and Shawna Steele added a double and Marissa Fakkema a single.

Coach Jess Weikle said, “Sedro took every advantage they could advancing runners, getting to the next base, scoring when the opportunity presented itself. We learned where a few of our weaknesses were and can now be prepared for Lake Stevens.”

Obviously the ‘Cats learned those lessons as they edged by the Vikings.

Oak Harbor jumped to a 6-2 lead and held on for the win.

Emily Hunt picked up the pitching win, and Saar grabbed the save with one-hit relief and three strikeouts over the final three innings.

Steele paced the offense with three hits, including a double and three RBI.

Fakkema had two hits,  walks, runs and RBI; and Morgan Young and Saar collected two hits and runs each.
