Wine goes to teen’s head

Oak Harbor police are looking for a teenaged burglar with a possible wine-bottle-shaped laceration on his head.

Police Chief Rick Wallace said a resident of SW Judson Street Drive woke up at about 4 a.m. Thursday after hearing his garage door opener go off. He grabbed a wine bottle for protection before going into the garage.

Wallace said the man discovered a teenaged boy. The teenager “charged” at the homeowner, so the man broke the bottle over the kid’s head.

The wallop didn’t seem to faze the teenager much. Wallace said he ran off and police were unable to find him.

Police aren’t sure how badly the young burglar may have been injured. There was blood at the scene, Wallace said, but the homeowner was cut when the bottle broke.

“We don’t believe he was hurt too badly because he just kept going,” the chief said. “He didn’t stagger or anything.”

Wallace said investigators believe that the teenager stole a garage door opener from a car parked at the house and used it to open the door. The teenager may be responsible for a few car prowls on the west side of the city early Thursday morning.

According to Wallace, there hasn’t been an uptick in car prowls lately.

“Vehicles prowls is a very common crime here in Oak Harbor.”

Wallace hasn’t released the suspect’s description yet, but he said the teenaged burglar probably isn’t nationally famous, serial burglar Colton Harris-Moore.
