Seven members of the Whidbey Island Running Club won divisional titles at the Smelt Run in LaConner Feb. 27.
John Rodeheffer, 13, had the most impressive showing in the USA Track Federation certified road race by winning the boys 11-14 division 10K in 35:58.
The time was the fourth fastest of all males in the race and it also put him on the Northwest Runner “Best Times” list, second in the 19-and-under category (27 seconds out of first).
Rodeheffer, a seventh-grader, was just 35 seconds off the national record (33:26 set in 1986) for 13-year-olds in the 10K.
John wasn’t the only Rodeheffer to have a good day. Mother Catie won the women’s 40-49 division and had the best women’s overall time (41:39). Father Bill took the men’s 50-59 race (38:03).
Other 10K winners where Christina Wicker, 14, in the 11-14 race (45:59), and Kaitlyn Chelberg, 10, in the 10-and-under division (48:29).
Five-kilometer winners included Catherine Wicker, 7, in the 10-and-under girls class (26:44), and Ryan Vasileff, 10, in the boys 10-and-under race (21:05).
