The Whidbey Island Running Club competed against six other teams from Bellingham to Olympia at Wilburton Park in Bellevue Saturday, Oct. 15.
Gavin Clark, 6, recorded the top finish for the WIRC by placing second in the mini-bantam mixed 800-meter race (4:39).
Addie Hanson, placing 10th in the midget girls division (11/12), earned WIRC Runner of the Meet honors by trimming a minute off her previous best time and by breaking 13 minutes (12:51) in the 3,000 in just her second meet.
She joined Laura Rodeheffer, 12 (third, 11:36); Kaitlyn Chelberg, 12 (eighth, 12:11); and Megan Keating, 11 (18th, 13:58) to help WIRC finish second in the division.
WIRC also grabbed second in 4,000-meter youth boys (13/14) division: third, Logan Clark, 13, 15:00; seventh, Caleb Thompson, 13, 15:54; and 10th, Miguel Guzman, 13, 16:25.
Ryan Vasileff was 11th (11:39) but first among 11-year-olds in the midget boys (11/12) race.
In mini-bantam mixed (6 and under, 800 meters), Grace Thompson, 5, placed fifth (5:36).
In bantam boys (9/10, 3,000 meters), Micah Thompson, 9, placed 14th (14:24).
Next weekend the WIRC, which is sponsored by NWPRD, goes to the Whatcom Invitational in Bellingham for its last developmental meet.
November begins Junior Olympic competition.
