Despite showing improvement, the Coupeville High School tennis team lost twice this week in nonleague matches, falling 6-1 to visiting Archbishop Murphy Wednesday, Sept. 24, and 4-1 at South Whidbey Thursday, Sept. 25.
The Wolves posted a strong showing in singles and picked up their first win of the year in first doubles.
First singles Aaron Curtin played well in losses to two quality opponents, and second singles Sebastian Davis lost twice in three sets.
Coach Ken Stange called Curtin’s match against Archbishop Murphy “an exciting match that featured two players with fast serves and huge ground strokes,” and said Davis is “moving closer to that big win.”
Curtin’s and Davis’ matches against South Whidbey “were certainly within reach,” Stange said.
Kyle Bodamer was a part of both wins for Coupeville. Competing in singles for the first time this year, Bodamer won 6-3, 7-6(7-5) in third singles against Archbishop Murphy.
Teaming with Loren Nelson, Bodamer won in first doubles over South Whidbey 4-6, 7-6(9-7), 6-3.
The Wolves (0-4) host North Mason (0-7) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.
