King’s, winners of eight of nine matches this fall, had its hands full with the pesky Coupeville High School soccer team before winning 3-0 Saturday, Sept. 29, at Mickey Clark Field.

The Knights scored an early goal against the Wolves and clung to a 1-0 lead until striking for two late goals to hold off the upset-minded Wolves.

Coupeville coach Dan d’Almeida said his team got off to a solid defensive start against the power Knights, winners of eight of nine matches.

He praised the play of several defenders: “Ana Luvera was very active and effective on the right side. Anna Bailey, recovering from an ankle sprain, anchored the defense throughout.”

He added, “Kelsey Miranda contributed as a defender…and as a forward.”

Amanda d’Almeida was “a force in the midfield,” coach d’Almeida said, winning “more headers than the entire King’s team” and penetrating to deliver “several dangerous through balls to Makana Stone.”

Coupeville (0-7, 0-9) played Lakewood (3-4, 3-5-1) at home at 5 p.m. Thursday.
