The Coupeville High School volleyball team fell to rival South Whidbey 3-0 Thursday, Sept. 19, in Langley.

The Falcons won 25-22, 25-18, 25-13.

Not all was lost for the Wolves, according to coach Kirsty Croghan, as her team showed improvement in blocking and serve receive.

Hailey Hammer and Allison Hanigan recorded six and five blocks, respectively, and Bree Messner and Madeline Strasburg added two each.

Messner had a strong all-around game, adding four kills and 14 digs and was 13-for-13 in serve receive.

Amanda Fabrizi collected 14 digs, was 20-for-23 in serve receive and went 6-for-6 serving.

Hammer rapped six kills and hit six of seven serves.

Megan Oakes was 35-for-38 in sets; Sydney Autio was 29-for-30.

Though blocking was a bright spot, Coupeville needs to limit its defensive errors, Croghan said, to be successful.

She added, “There were a lot of good rallies tonight; however, South Whidbey came out on top.”

Coupeville (0-3, 1-3) returns to South Whidbey at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, for a tournament.
