The win-loss totals in the standings don’t come with adjectives.
The Coupeville High School volleyball team trimmed host Port Townsend 3-1 Tuesday, Oct. 20.
“It wasn’t pretty,” Coupeville coach Breanne Smedley said, “but a win’s a win, right?”
Yes, and the victory gave the Wolves the upper hand over the Redhawks in securing a postseason berth.
Three of the four Olympic League 1A teams advance to the playoffs, and Coupeville’s win set the Wolves (1-2, 3-8) in third, ahead of Port Townsend (0-3, 1-8).
Coupeville won the match 25-13, 22-25, 30-28, 25-19.
“We were able to finish, which was great,” Smedley said. “We put ourselves in unnecessary situations through our hitting and serving errors; however, our ability to fight and close out the game was something that we will build on for Chimacum.”
The Wolves meet Chimacum (2-1, 7-8) in Coupeville at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.
Coupeville received held from all fronts in the win over Port Townsend: Valen Trujillo, six aces; McKenzie Bailey, four kills; Ally Roberts, four kills; Sydney Autio, nine aces, 17 assists; Payton Aparicio, nine aces; Kyla Briscoe, four kills; Katrina McGranahan, nine kills, five aces; and Tiffany Briscoe, 10 aces.
