Coupeville High School track athletes continued their trend of improvement and made a little history along the way in a three-way meet at North Kitsap Thursday, March 24.

The Wolves recorded 40 season bests after posting 26 in the previous contest.

On the historical front, Jordan Ford became the first Coupeville athlete to compete in the pole vault in 20 years, according to coach Randy King, placing second with a leap of 10 feet, 6 inches.

The girls 4×200 relay team of Lauren Grove, Sylvia Hurlburt, Lindsey Roberts and Makana Stone earned the Wolves’ only win, clocking a 1:48.4, the third fastest time in CHS history. The mark is also the best among Washington 1A schools this season by three seconds and fifth-best regardless of classification.

The quartet also took second in the 4×100 relay (52.17).

Roberts, a freshman, had the strongest individual meet. In addition to running on the first- and second-place relays, she was second in the 200 meters (28.68) and 100 hurdles (17.93).

Ford paced the boys with his second in the pole vault and another second on the 4×100 relay team with Gabe Eck, Jacob Martin and Jacob Smith (47.17).

Next Thursday, March 31, the Wolves face former Cascade Conference foes Granite Falls, Sultan and South Whidbey at 4 p.m. in Langley.
