King’s, led by talented quarterback Thomas Vincent, raced past the Coupeville football team 45-13 in Seattle Friday night.
Vincent slashed the Wolves’ defense for a 62-yard run on the first play of the game. He was brought down at the 2-yard line, and two plays later the Knights were on the board. And things didn’t get any better from there.
King’s next three drives went touchdown, field goal, touchdown and Coupeville was down 24-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The score was lopsided, but Coupeville didn’t struggle to move the ball, just to put it in the end zone. After the Knights’ quick first score, the Wolves bounced right back and drove deep into King’s territory only to miss a field goal – and that was the theme of the night.
Coupeville piled up the yards – over 400 in total offense – but couldn’t pile up the points. Quarterback Jason Bagby passed for 289 yard, going 21-37 with one interception. The Wolves picked up 114 yard on the ground; Justin Adams had 85 in 13 carries.
Coupeville assistant coach Gary Smart said, “The way the game started, I thought who ever had the ball last would win. But when we got it in the red zone, we couldn’t push it in.”
The Wolves are 2-1 for the season and 0-1 in league. King’s is 2-1 and 1-0. Next Friday Granite Falls comes to Coupeville for another conference game.
