The Coupeville High School tennis team avenged an early season loss to Port Angeles by nipping the visiting Roughriders 4-3 Monday, April 25, in a non-league match.

The Coupeville High School tennis team avenged an early season loss to Port Angeles by nipping the visiting Roughriders 4-3 Monday, April 25, in a non-league match.

Port Angeles edged the Wolves 4-3 March 17.

The Wolves (3-0, 7-3) will now focus on defending their Olympic League crown when they face conference foes Chimacum and Klahowya this week.

Coupeville goes to Chimacum (1-2, 3-7) at 4 p.m. Tuesday and hosts Klahowya (1-3, 5-7) at 4 p.m. Friday.

The win over Port Angeles came down to second doubles where McKenzie Bailey and Jazmine Franklin pulled out a three-set win. The Coupeville duo won the first set 7-5, lost the second by the same score and then wrapped up the match with a 6-2 win in the third.

The Wolves collected straight-set wins in first and second singles and in first doubles.

In singles, Valen Trujillo (6-3, 6-1) and Sydney Autio (6-2, 6-0) picked up victories.

Payton Aparicio and Sage Renninger rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win in first doubles.

In other matches, Bree Daigneault lost 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in third singles; Maggie Crimmins/Kamryn St. Onge fell 6-4, 6-2 in third doubles; and Julianne Sem/Julia Borges lost 6-0, 6-1 in fourth doubles.
