The Coupeville High School softball team helped Meridian celebrate Senior Night with a scrimmage Monday, May 18, in Laurel.
Umpires for the makeup game did not show up, but the teams, after waiting over an hour and a half, agreed to scrimmage so the Trojans could honor their seniors and allow them to play one final game on their home field, according to Coupeville coach Deanna Rafferty.
Meridian won the informal affair 3-1 in five innings.
Lauren Rose, Katrina McGranahan, Hailey Hammer, Monica Vidoni and McKayla Bailey all singled for the Wolves.
Rose, the catcher, led the defense, according to Rafferty, by throwing out a runner trying to steal second.
Coupeville (6-11) wraps up the regular season with a 4 p.m. home, nonleague game with LaConner (13-6) Tuesday, May 19.
The Wolves travel to Tacoma’s Sprinker Fields for the district tournament Friday and Saturday, May 22 and 23.
Coupeville faces Bellevue Christian in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. Friday. If the Wolves win, they will play league foe Chimacum at 11 a.m. Saturday.
