At the All-Division Olympic League Track Championships at Poulsbo’s North Kitsap High School Saturday, May 7, Coupeville began the postseason by finishing first among the 1A competition.

Seven 2A and four 1A schools took part, and Coupeville topped its three 1A foes. In fact, the Wolves finished ahead of two 2A teams (Bremerton and North Mason) in the boys standings, placing sixth with 102 points. North Kitsap captured the boys team title with 286 points.

Among the girls, Coupeville was eighth with 70 points; Olympic nabbed first with 316 points.

The strong showing by Coupeville was highlighted by the efforts of Jordan Ford, who battered his own school record in the pole vault by six inches by leaping 12’6”, and the girls 4×200 relay team (Lauren Grove, Lindsey Roberts, Sylvia Hurlburt and Makana Stone), who posted the state’s best 1A time in the girls 4×200 relay (1:46.9).

Ford placed third and the relay team was second.

Stone won the 400 (58.55) and Dalton Martin captured the boys discus (153-02) for the Wolves’ only individual titles at the meet.

Coupeville and the other 1A teams gather for the sub-district meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Bremerton High School.
