Smith pitched a four-hitter, striking out 13 and walking none. Three of the four hits came in the fifth inning; two strikeouts helped him get out of the jam.

It took awhile for the Coupeville offense to get going, then the Wolves broke through with four runs in the third inning. A one-out triple by Matt Hilborn got things going, then Coupeville mixed two errors, three walks and a two-run single by Kory Score to plate the four runs.

Four walks, a hit batter, a ground out and a couple of passed balls helped the Wolves score three times in the fifth inning.

In the sixth, singles by Dane Lucero, Nick Etzell and Hilborn and two walks led to three runs.

Hilborn and Lucero collected two hits; Smith, Cole Payne, Score and Etzell each singled; and Cameron Toomey-Stout drove in a run.

“No errors and good base running,” coach Marc Aparicio said. “We’re ready for South Whidbey.”

Coupeville (1-0, 3-5) and the Falcons (3-3) meet at noon Saturday, April 2, in Langley.
