An Oak Harbor woman is asking for $5,000 in pain and suffering, and for a new pair of glasses, after tripping on a curb on SE Pioneer Way.
According to the claim submitted to the city July 6, Jo Lord, 58, was walking near the city’s construction office downtown on June 15 when she tripped on the lip of the street. Lord wrote that she fell headfirst into the sidewalk, hitting a barricade with her head and wrist on the way down.
She sustained injuries to her lip, the inside of her cheek and lost a gold crown. Her glasses were also “bent almost in half” and had to be replaced at a cost of $388. Lord claims her shoulder was also injured in the fall.
“I have included an estimate to replace the glasses, however, there is no estimate I can provide for the other injuries except the pain it has cost me,” Lord wrote. “I am therefore requesting that the City of Oak Harbor write me a check for $5,000, which may or may not just cover my gold crown.”
In a written statement addressed to Project Manager Larry Cort, whom Lord lists as a witness, Lord said the lip of the street was 3-inches short of blacktop and that there were no signs warning people of the danger.
