Central Whidbey firefighters rescued a woman from a house fire in the early morning hours of June 9.

At approximately 1 a.m., firefighters from Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at a Ferry Avenue home in Crockett Lake Estates. While en route, firefighters received communications from ICOM that a disabled woman was trapped inside the home. When they arrived, they discovered a fire in the living room of a home filled with smoke, according to the fire department.

Firefighter Jerry Helm found the woman in the front room and dragged her to the door, where fellow firefighters David Mott and Kevin Moberg helped remove her from the home. Paramedics transported her to Whidbey General Hospital.

While not causing a significant delay, the first unit had difficulty locating the home due to a lack of a visible house number. Resident are encouraged to ensure their house numbers are visible from the street. Blue, reflective house number signs are available free from Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue.
