A 21-year-old Coupeville woman was taken to the hospital Saturday following a rollover car accident on Central Whidbey.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Jason Nichols, the incident occurred at about 3:45 p.m. Natalie Dent was driving south on Highway 20 and was rounding the large curve at Grasser’s Lagoon but failed to negotiate the turn successfully.

Nichols said tire tracks at the scene appear to indicate that Dent tried to correct at the last second but it was too late. The vehicle she was driving, a 1991 Volkswagen Golf GL, left the shoulder on the right side of road, which caused it to spin and then roll.

“A witness said it rolled three times,” Nichols said.

The car came to rest on its side in thorny brush about six feet from the roadway. The area was soon buzzing with Island County sheriff deputies, North Whidbey Fire and Rescue firefighters and Whidbey General Hospital paramedics.

Also there was 23-year-old Adrian Tarasoff, Dent’s boyfriend and the owner of the vehicle. Tarasoff said he let Dent borrow the car and had seen her just minutes before the accident at his house.

“She just dropped me off and five minutes later she called me,” Tarasoff said.

Emergency responders secured Dent to a stretcher and brought her to a waiting ambulance. She was then transported to Whidbey General Hospital. Tarasoff confirmed she was treated and released the same day, walking away with bumps and bruises.

Nichols said Saturday that speed was being investigated as the primary cause of the accident.
