Alma M. “Sammie” Eggett, 70, of Oak Harbor, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on May 24, 2010. She was born on Dec. 3, 1939 in Petaluma, Calif., to Mae Wheeler Travers.
Sammie was married to Gordon E. Eggett on Sept. 16, 1972 in Oak Harbor. Together they enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home. They also enjoyed dancing and spending time with their grandchildren.
Sammie was a born again Christian. She was a member of Family Bible Church in Oak Harbor. Sammie wrote the Prayer Corner for the church newsletter. Her greatest love was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and attending church.
Working as a volunteer at Crisis Pregnancy Center of Whidbey Island for the past several years was another passion of Sammie’s. She spent several days a week volunteering her time to help out. She also put a lot of time into her Watkins business over the last two years.
Sammie is survived by her loving husband Gordy of Oak Harbor; children Eric and wife Ruth Eggett of California, Tracy Skinner of Utah, John Eggett of Spokane, Gregory S. and wife Caryn Eggett of Oak Harbor, and Dicy and her husband John, Jr. Sheppard of Arlington, Wash.; grandchildren John III, Michelle, Dicy Reneé, Christopher, Donald, David, Emily, Stephen, and Fiona-Marie; several great-grandchildren; sisters Clara Taylor and Mae Miller; brothers Elmo Travers and Walter Van Sant. She was preceded in death by her mother and sister Alice McAlister.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at Family Bible Church in Oak Harbor. Memorials have been suggested to the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Whidbey Island.
