Anita Brooks Berger

Anita Brooks Berger, 98, entered into rest on June 30, 2008 in Mount Vernon. Anita was born Sept. 16, 1909 in Portland, Ore., to Holiver and Clara Urdahl. She married her husband Michael A. Berger on April 19, 1927 in Butte, Mont.

Anita was employed as a bank teller at Peoples National Bank and a hotel owner/operator in Butte for many years. She enjoyed being a church treasurer, banking and working as a port commissioner.

Anita is survived by her daughter, Carol (David) Merrick of LaConner; grandchildren, Michael (Gabrielle) Merrick of Denton, Md., and James (Lori) Merrick of Bellevue; great granddaughter, Delaney Merrick of Bellevue; nephew, Lee (Sharon) Berger of Kalispel, Mont.; niece, Adrian Richmont (Pat Turco); and many grand nieces and nephews. Anita was preceded in death by her husband Michael on Nov. 11, 1951, and her son Michael in 1957.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church, 5217 S. Honeymoon Bay Road in Freeland, on Thursday, July 10 at 3 p.m.. Memorial contributions may be given in Anita’s name to Hospice of Skagit County, 819 S. 13th St, Mount Vernon 98273.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jerns Funeral Chapel, Bellingham.
