Ann-O’Dell Wilson, 89, of Clinton, died June 13, 2007, in Coupeville. She was born in Pittsburg, Kan., on Dec. 5, 1917, to Lisle and Hattie Darling (Scott) Smith. She was raised in Pittsburg where she graduated from high school at the age of sixteen, then attended Kansas State Teachers College and University of New Mexico, receiving her teaching degree. While in college she met Charles, her future husband.
She moved to central Kansas to teach, until on Jan. 12, 1942, she married Charles Rader Wilson. Her husband began a 22-year career in the United States Air Force. During WWII Ann-O’Dell waited in Dallas, Texas, for his return and took care of their baby daughter. In 1947 their son, Edward, was born. Their home changed many times over the years as they were assigned to duty stations here and abroad. Together they lived in Germany, Morocco, Italy, and France, Texas, Indiana, California, Oregon, and New Mexico. No matter where they stayed she made it their home; taking care of her husband, family and house was her pride and joy. She loved travel, was an avid reader and was a Gray Lady volunteer in the military hospitals.
When Charles retired from the military they moved to San Diego. There she was a volunteer reading aide at the neighborhood grade school. Charles passed away in 1993, and in 1997, Ann-O’Dell moved to Clinton to be with her daughter, who took care of her for the next 10 years.
She is survived by her daughter Judith Coulter of Clinton; granddaughters Ann Lohman of Bow, and Deanna Lewis of Poway, Calif.; great-grandchildren Sam Lohman and Abby Lohman, Gregory Del Castillo, Kyle Coulter and Delia Coulter.
She was preceded in death by her son Edward Charles Wilson in 1960, and her husband in 1993, her grandson Robert Coulter in 2003, and her great-grandson Cameron Coulter in 1992.
