Anne M. Richloff passed away Sept. 10, 2005 at Careage of Whidbey, Coupeville, at the age of 93. She was born on Oct. 22, 1911 in South Manchester, Conn., the eldest of six children of David and Josephine Saverick.
Anne grew up in South Manchester and married Michael V. Richloff on Sept. 4, 1927. They lived in Hartford, Conn. where she worked for the Royal Typewriter Company for 20 years. She then studied to become a trained aid for the Hartford Hospital. She spent her later years as a City of Hartford employee in the police department serving as a crossing guard. She was known as “Granny” to many St. Augustine’s Elementary School students.
She loved doing needlework and sewing and made memorable pieces and many afghans for her family. She loved her family deeply, her church, St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, and the friends she made there. She spent her last 21 years residing with her daughter and son-in-law in both San Diego, Calif. and here in Oak Harbor.
Preceding Anne in death were daughter Anne Lydia Richloff in 1929, husband Michael V. Richloff in 1953 and son Michael V. Richloff Jr. in 1985. Anne is survived by daughters Nina Hossfeld and husband Jim of Oak Harbor and Anne Creswell and husband Luther of Bristol, Conn., and one brother Walter Saverick and wife Lucille, and one sister Mary Mahoney of Hartford. Ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild, along with many nieces, nephews and their children also survive.
Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Mass for Anne Richloff will be held Thursday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Oak Harbor with Rev. Marc Powell officiating. Graveside committal rites will follow at Northwood Cemetery, Wilson, Conn. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
