Arlene V. Cook, 92, died Feb. 17, 2005, in McCleary. She was born Nov. 11, 1912, on the prairie near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to American citizens, Robert and Mable Cordis.
She married Gerald V Cook in California about 1930. Gerald and Arlene had three children, Geraldine, Arlan (Buzz) and Leroy. The family moved to Oak Harbor on Taylor Road from Vancouver, Wash., in the mid 1950s.
Arlene was known for her love of flowers and trees and worked at local nurseries. If it grew and had roots, she knew the name for it. She is survived by her sister, Nina Heinrich of Waterford, Calif.; her sons, Arlan F. Cook of Elma and Leroy E. Cook of Oak Harbor; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was buried Feb. 22 at the Satsop Cemetery near Elma. A memorial for family members and close friends is being planned for the weekend of March 5.
