Arlet G. Slough, R.N., passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2008. She was 86 years old.
Arlet was born on March 16, 1922, to Martin and Minda Johnson in Fairdale, N.D. She graduated from Crookston High School in 1940 and received her R.N. diploma from The University of North Dakota in 1943. She moved to the Pacific Northwest where she initially worked at Swedish Hospital, Seattle, and then moved to Bremerton and worked at the Bremerton Naval Hospital.
She met and married Clarence “Joe” Dillard Jr. in 1944 and together they had two sons while traveling with the U.S. Navy. They settled in Oak Harbor in 1958 where Arlet became a part of Eastern Star/Amaranth and worked for Dr. Gabreilson, and later finished her career at Whidbey Manor. Joe Dillard passed away in 1983. Arlet then married Victor Slough in 1984 and they traveled the United States with some stops in Europe and the Caribbean. She moved to Kirkland in 2006 after Victor’s passing to be closer to her granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ida Franklin, Alice Running, Evelyn Lykke and Mabel Olson; brother Jesse Olson, nephews Bob Lykke and Max Olson; husbands Clarence “Joe” Dillard Jr. and Victor C. Slough.
She is survived by sons Clarence “Clancy” Dillard III and David Dillard (Cheryl); granddaughters Christa Laukaitis (Jason) and Tara Dillard; grandsons Zach and Joseph Dillard; great-grandson Lennon Laukaitis; niece Evelyn Durosette; and nephew Arthur Lykke.
Arlet loved spending time with her family and friends, playing Scrabble and card games, shopping at Nordstroms, keeping up with fashion, traveling, reading, and enjoying chocolate, ice cream and Mexican food.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Hospice, Kirkland.
