Ayako Cook

Ayako Cook was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Kyushu, Japan. Ayako moved to the United States in 1959 and later to Coupeville in 1965 where she proudly raised her four sons, impacting them with the importance of respect and hard work as they were involved in a number of sports and other activities growing up. She was employed as the manager of the Navy Exchange Tailor Shop at the Ault Field Base in Oak Harbor for 16 years until 1983 when she retired.

“Ike” as her friends called her, enjoyed watching The Seattle Mariners, Price is Right, but more importantly spending time with family and friends. Her most favorite past time was playing Bingo with all her friends. She will be missed dearly.

Surviving are her sons: Charlie of Coupeville; Raymond and wife Roni of San Clemente, Calif.; Richard and wife Kathy of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter-in-law Phyllis of Coupeville; and eight beautiful grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, Savannah, Lauren, Autumn, Charlie, Chanel and Taylor.

Ayako was buried at Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville on July 31, 2008, next to her son Robert. Arrangements were with the assistance of Whidbey Memorial Funeral & Cremation Service, 746 NE Midway Blvd., Oak Harbor.
