Betty Lucille Lange was born in Cass Lake, Minn., on Jan. 8, 1922, to Bert and Julia (Walter) Taylor. She died Aug. 31, 2008, at Careage of Whidbey, Coupeville at the age of 86. Betty was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. She attended Catholic schools for many years, but graduated from Beaumont High School in the Galveston area.
Following high school, Betty worked as a private secretary for an attorney. She was married to Kenneth Lange. Ken was career Navy and the family followed him to many duty stations, including assignments in Africa, Morocco, and numerous bases on both the east and west coasts of the U.S. They received orders to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in 1973 and Oak Harbor became home. Betty quit work as her family grew and enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker.
Betty is survived by her husband Kenneth at the family home and by one adopted daughter, Aimee Herron and husband T.J. of Oak Harbor. Four grandchildren, Shannon Monahan and husband Danny, Jacob Jones, Tre Herron and Renee Herron, all of Oak Harbor, and one sister, Joyce Hall of Corpus Christi, also survive. One son, Michael F. Lange, preceded her in death.
Memorial services for Betty will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel with inurnment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
