William “Bill” Young Smith, 88, of Freeland, passed away on Aug. 1, 2011. He was born Jan. 26, 1923, to Willard G. and Emma Jean (McDonald) Smith in Coconut Grove, Fla. Bill served in the U.S. Navy for almost 30 years during World War II, Korea and Vietnam as an aircraft engine mechanic. He retired as an E9 AMCM.
Bill married Annabel Edna Otto and together they had three children. Bill was an active Mason in the communities where he lived. In 1969 he affiliated with the Langley Lodge No. 218 F&AM where he advanced to Past Master.
Bill is survived by his wife, Annabel, and his children, Dennis (Diane) Smith of Brush Prairie, Wash., Craig Smith of Langley and Corrine Cowles of North Carolina; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services for Bill will be held Tuesday, August 9, at 11 a.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, with Masonic Rites and Military Honors. Burial will take place at a later date at Acacia Memorial Park in Shoreline, Wash.
